World Fantasy Convention 2025

In less than two weeks until the World Fantasy Convention comes to Brighton, and I’m excited to be returning to a con that I’ve always enjoyed, though I’ve not been since the last time it was in the UK in 2013. It’s always a good time, and being at Hallowe’en always adds a little bit extra to the fun.

What am I doing at the con? Well…

I’ve a few duties on Friday the 31st. First up is an 11am Reading in the excellent company of Tom Johnstone and Timothy J Jarvis. Two brilliant and stylistically very different writers of the macabre. Not sure what I’m reading from yet, but it’s likely to be a sneak preview from my forthcoming collection, Hand-me-downs.

Later on Friday, I’ll be attending the NewCon Press launch party at 6pm. NewCon launches are always a highlight, but this one is especially important for me. In addition to brilliant new books from Cécile Cristofari and Ana Sun, we’re finally setting Blood In The Bricks loose on the world. Joining us will be cover artist (and WFC’s artist guest of honour) Vincent Chong and the majority of the contributors, so we’re really going to make a party of it.

One of the traditional fixtures of a World Fantasy Convention is the mass autographing session. The idea is that if you’re the kind of person who is likely to bring books by your favourite authors to the convention to get signed, instead of struggling to locate them over the weekend, there’s a two hour window from 8-10pm on the Friday when they’ll all hopefully be passing through the same room. It kinda makes sense. Anyway, I’ll be there for a bit too.

And then at 5pm on Saturday I’ll be chairing It Takes A Village, a panel on the enduring appeal of folk horror. I’ll be joined by Alison Littlewood, Tom Johnstone and Thomas Olde Heuvelt, so you know the knowledge will be deep and the craic will be great.

Other than that? Well, as usual I’ll be hanging around looking for someone to chat to. Like literally. Anyone. Come say hi!
