Since his first publication in Territories magazine in 1994, Neil’s stories have appeared regularly in genre magazines and anthologies.

His books include The Moon King, Queen of Clouds, The Memoirist, Charlie Says and The Packet, and he has published over eighty short stories. His editorial work includes Nova Scotia: New Scottish Speculative Fiction, Nova Scotia vol 2: New Speculative Fiction From Scotland, Gallus and Blood In The Bricks.

Over the years Neil has been a finalist for British Science Fiction Association, British Fantasy and World Fantasy Awards. Blood In The Bricks won the BSFA award for Best Collection in 2026.

Neil will be the guest of honour at Pictcon 2 in 2026.
