Extinction Event

If you’ve been following along here for a while you’ll know that I occasionally interrupt the book chat with a my annual music nonsense. Well, that time has come again. Behold the Disappointed Skeptics Club album for 2026: Extinction Event.

As always, the songs were written and recorded during February Album Writing month and then footered with for literally weeks until I had enough tunes I was happy with to let loose into the world.

This year’s theme? With all of the goings on out there … *waves at all the global bullshit* … I got to thinking about how we respond to sea changes in the world. So I present a dozen songs from the points of view of various characters in the wake of a major global event. The ones who were invested in what was happening, the ones who hid, the ones who were oblivious to it all. There are songs about the 19th century ice trade, bread mould and how minerals mined in the Ore Mountains in southern Germany got their names. And, just for fun, one about resource consumption whose time signature is based on the first seven Fibonacci digits.

As you can tell, I had fun this year. If you decided to take a listen, I hope you enjoy them.

Extinction Event is out today on Bandcamp today. And hey whaddya know? It’s Bandcamp Friday too. It’ll be on streaming services eventually too, if that’s your thing, but why not hang out at BC for a bit. Explore, have yourself a wee listening party, maybe buy someone’s music, and make their day.
