Last week was a bit of a gig fest. Wednesday saw us tripping along to Juliette and The Licks And Friday saw me hanging around in Edinburgh after the last day of a training course to catch our friend Cornelius and his new band, The Rohypsters, who turned out, as stated in their manifesto, to be “Fuckin’ nails!”. Quality. But sandwiched in between those two events was Thursday night’s jaunt to see the mighty Sparks.Second time we’ve seen them this year, and they consistently provide 100% entertainment. Absolute genius. And it was Russell’s birthday, and we got told off by Ron for singing happy birthday and spoiling the surprise. And when Ron Mael tells you off, you stay told off!
bloody nice to see you at both the licks, and our show.
bloody nice indeed.
a real brick.

I didn’t know the Sparks were stlll touring… is Ron the scary one with the Hitler ‘tache?
As for Juliette and the Licks, I’ve been meaning to get their album: Juliette’s vocals on the last Prodigy album are fan-bloody-superb, and she kicks vampire arse!

That’s the very fellows, Chris. The tash is a lot less “hitler” now, but he still comes across pretty stern.
They’ve resurfaced this year after some time doing other things. When we saw them in February we were with a friend who had been at their previous Glasgow show… in 1973, but they’ve played our fair city twice this year now and fitted in the Isle of Skye festival in the summer, so they must be enjoying the live thing again.
Cornelius – you mean square and heavy right?
