Got a project I’m working on right now, and I’ve decided that it needs an inspirational song namechecked in it. You know, the sort of thing contestants get to belt out on the X-Factor that have dramatic beat, step-up modulation and fireworks going into the last chorus. “You Raise Me Up”, “I Believe I Can Fly”, that sort of thing.
Any suggestions?
He Ain’t Heavy?
Take That – The Greatest Day
‘What a Beautiful Day’ by the Levellers?
Exuberant, but not sentimental. Always makes me smile.
I’m happy to say I don’t know The Greatest Day, but if it’s by TT, then it’s very likely the closest to the sort of thing I’m looking for.
Thanks so far.
It’s awful, a single too far.
What about something from the Monkees? They committed the worst concert that I have ever seen, but it was certainly upbeat.
That annoying song about throwing beef curtains wide and a nice day seeing me right.
Em – You mean Elbow? Or do you mean their “dirty” tribute act: ArseFrom?
That’s kinda the right ball park, though.
Jim – not The Monkees, what did they ever write that was “inspirational” in any way shape or form?
If you have a town called Clarksville that people have to get to by train the Monkees might be able to help you out, or someone who has had enough and doesn’t want to be a “Stepping Stone” (although I probably prefer the Sex Pistols cover version myself).
I think we’ve stretched this subject so far, it’s broke. I think I have enough ideas anyway.
Members of GSFWC will no doubt discover what this is all about in due course.

Listen To The Band.
